It’s believed that CBD may be able to produce different effects at different doses. Additionally, it’s also believed that people who weigh more may require larger doses of CBD in order to feel the same effects. As a result, sometimes a low dose of CBD just isn’t enough to get the job done. Thankfully, some CBD products have more CBD than others. When is high CBD the way to go?
Different Dosages, Different Effects
Depending on what effects you’re looking to experience from your CBD, a higher dose may be a better choice. For example, the Mayo Clinic suggests that 200 mg – 300 mg of CBD be used for epilepsy, while only 20 mg may be necessary for chronic pain.
Some research exists to support the idea that different doses of CBD produce different effects. A 1977 study found that mice dosed with 20 mg of CBD displayed more stimulated behavior, while those dosed with 40 mg seemed to be more sedated. This research seems to suggest that the more CBD you ingest, the more sedated you’ll feel. A review of studies from 2019 also found that clinical studies had more success in treating different conditions with higher doses of CBD.
If you’re looking for more strongly relaxing and sedating effects, more CBD may be the answer. On the other hand, if you’re looking to avoid overly-calming effects, a lower dose may be more appropriate.
Bigger Doses For Based on Weight
In addition to the effects you wish to experience, you should also think about your weight when considering high CBD doses. It’s believed that people who weigh more may require more CBD in order to feel the same effects that a lighter person would, just as with other medications. This means that if you’re heavier, you may require a higher dose.
That being said, it’s important to not go overboard when dosing CBD. Ideally, you want to find the lowest possible dose that produces the effects you are looking for.
High CBD May Produce More Side Effects
One of the great things about CBD is that it tends to have relatively few side effects. However, the more CBD you use, the more likely you are to experience these side effects. Some common side effects of CBD include dry mouth, lightheadedness, nausea and stomach pain, diarrhea, and low blood pressure.
If you’re experiencing stomach issues when using CBD, it may be a good idea to use sublingual CBD oil instead. Otherwise, take your dose down a notch since your body may not be able to process that much CBD at once.
High CBD Strains
Some strains contain much more CBD than others. Many people prefer CBD oil, but smoking or vaping CBD flower is a great option for those who wish to experience the effects of CBD much quicker.
